Local CDL jobs

People search for local CDL jobs, home-daily work, and local truck driving jobs. BLS does not publish an estimate of home-daily CDL openings. The tables below are May 2025 estimates of wage-and-salary employment in metropolitan areas. Employment in a metro area is not a local route and it is not a job you can apply for from this page.

What “local” is not

A carrier’s “local” or “home daily” label is the carrier’s description of a job. Ask, in writing, how many nights you are away and which miles are paid. 49 CFR 395.1(e)(1), checked October 29, 2026, can exempt a property-carrying driver from the records in 49 CFR 395.8 and 395.11 when the driver operates within a 150 air-mile radius (172.6 statute miles) of the normal work-reporting location, returns and is released within 14 consecutive hours, and has at least 10 consecutive hours off duty separating each 14 hours on duty. Other conditions apply, including the time records the carrier must keep. The exception is not a directory of local jobs, and it does not mean unlimited driving or a home-daily job.

Where heavy truck driver employment is largest

SOC 53-3032, heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers. BLS defines this occupation as requiring a commercial driver’s license. The ten metropolitan areas below have the highest published May 2025 employment estimates in the OEWS metro file. Areas with a suppressed employment or median wage are not in this list. Employment RSE is the relative standard error. BLS uses it to show how precise an employment estimate is. A smaller percent is a more precise estimate. It is not a wage and it is not a number of openings. Source: oesm25ma/MSA_M2025_dl.xlsx, retrieved .

Questions drivers ask

Are these local CDL job openings?

No. They are May 2025 estimates of wage-and-salary employment in a metropolitan area. A person included in an estimate may still spend nights away from home. This page does not list openings.

Does the short-haul rule mean the job is home daily?

No. 49 CFR 395.1(e)(1) is a recordkeeping exception. A property-carrying driver may qualify when the work stays within 150 air miles of the normal work-reporting location, the driver returns and is released within 14 consecutive hours, and at least 10 consecutive hours off duty separate each 14 hours on duty. Other conditions apply. It is not a job title and it does not describe pay.

Is light-truck employment an estimate of Class B CDL jobs?

No. BLS publishes light truck drivers separately from heavy and tractor-trailer drivers. This page does not split either occupation into Class A or Class B.
