Free CDL training
Where do I look for free CDL training?
Separate a workforce grant, a college course with no tuition, and a company-sponsored agreement. This site names a program only when its public page describes the funding. As of October 28, 2026, those notes are two California colleges and one Colorado grant for eligible military families. Every other state page explains how to ask an American Job Center and how to read a carrier offer. A directory listing is not a funded seat.

What “free CDL training” is asking
“Free CDL training” and “free CDL training near me” usually mix three different things: a workforce grant, a college course with no tuition, and a carrier that pays the school. They are not the same cash flow. The guide to what “free” usually means walks through grants, GI Bill benefits, and the questions to ask before you enroll.
This directory adds a page for each state and the District of Columbia. A state page names a program only when that program’s own public page, checked October 28, 2026, describes the funding. Named notes are limited to California and Colorado. Every other state page is a how-to-find page on purpose.
Company-sponsored and paid training can mean different offers
“Company sponsored CDL training” is an employer agreement. “Paid CDL training” can mean that a carrier pays the tuition or that you are paid during training, and some carriers use it for both. A carrier can reduce the tuition you pay up front and still require a work commitment or repayment. Read carrier-paid CDL training before you travel or leave a job. National examples belong on that guide. They are not copied onto every state page as if the carrier trains in that state.
Matching is off, so the next step is the school directory.

States are ordered by measured “free CDL training” search volume. States with no measured volume are last. California and Colorado are the only states with a named program, and that fact does not move them to the top. The order is not a quality ranking.
Each state page also shows three official files, and none of them is a free seat. College Scorecard matches are exact name, city, and state hits in the May 19, 2025 institution file. GI Bill rows are VA Comparison Tool facilities whose names matched “truck”, “cdl”, or “commercial driver” in version 1525, retrieved October 29, 2026. Those rows are facility records. The veterans guide separates that name search from a military test waiver and from a GI Bill payment. The eligible-training table is the Texas statewide ETPL only, file dated July 8, 2026. A national ETPL file was not retrieved. Other states link to CareerOneStop’s finder.

Questions drivers ask
Is free CDL training really free?
Sometimes tuition is covered and other costs are not. A grant can be limited to people who qualify and to courses on a local list. A company-sponsored offer can require work or repayment. Ask who pays, which charges remain, and what happens if you do not finish.
Is company-sponsored CDL training the same as paid CDL training?
Not always. Paid CDL training can mean that a carrier pays some or all of the tuition, or that you are paid while you train, and some carriers use the phrase for both. Company-sponsored or carrier-paid training usually comes with a work commitment or repayment terms. Check which arrangement the offer describes and read the agreement. The words on an advertisement are not the contract.
Which states have a verified no-tuition or grant program on this site?
As of October 28, 2026, this site names Allan Hancock College and Victor Valley College in California, and the Aims Community College CMVOST grant in Colorado. Other state pages explain how to look and do not invent a program.
Does “free CDL training near me” mean a school in this directory?
No. Search volume is not a funded seat. Use an American Job Center and the state page, then confirm the exact campus, course, and approval in writing.
Take the state steps before you pay a deposit.
An American Job Center and the school’s written terms decide the funding. This hub does not.
