Class B CDL jobs

People search for Class B CDL jobs, Class B truck driving jobs, and straight-truck work. This page is not a job board. Class B is a vehicle group on a commercial driver’s license. It is not a BLS occupation, and it is not a list of openings.

A search for Class B CDL jobs near you is not answered here. This page does not sort employers by distance and does not list openings near a ZIP code. A light-truck wage below is not a Class B job near you.

The vehicle group

49 CFR 383.91, checked October 29, 2026, describes Group B as any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, or any such vehicle towing a vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds GVWR. Group A is a combination with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, provided the vehicle being towed is over 10,000 pounds GVWR. A towed unit over 10,000 pounds does not by itself make a lighter combination Group A.

A driver who passed the Group A knowledge and skills tests may operate a Group B vehicle with the required endorsements. Passenger and school-bus work can require an endorsement even when the vehicle is Group B. A bus is not automatically Class B. Read Class A versus Class B.

BLS does not publish a Class B wage

Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, SOC 53-3032, are the occupation BLS defines as driving a tractor-trailer or a truck of at least 26,001 pounds GVW, and as requiring a CDL. A Class B straight truck at that weight can fall in this occupation. Tractor-trailer work can fall in it too. The May 2025 median annual wage was $58,640. That median is not a Class B-only wage and it is not a starting offer. Source: BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, checked .

Light truck drivers are a separate estimate

SOC 53-3033. The May 2025 median annual wage was $44,860. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $30,800, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $80,310. Employment in 2025 was 1,068,500, and BLS projects 6 percent growth by 2035. The handbook says these drivers need a driver’s license. It does not say that employment is a count of Class B jobs.

The same handbook page projects about 152,700 openings a year, on average, for delivery truck drivers and driver/sales workers together. That figure is not a light-truck count and it is not a Class B count. The similar-occupations table lists bus drivers at a May 2025 median of $49,390. That is not a Class B wage.

May 2025 OEWS state estimates below are wage-and-salary light truck drivers, cross-industry. Employment RSE is the relative standard error, BLS’s measure of how precise the employment estimate is. A smaller percent is a more precise estimate. These are estimates, not openings, and not Class B jobs. Source: BLS OEWS state file, retrieved .

Questions drivers ask

Does BLS publish a Class B wage?

No. Class B is a federal vehicle group in 49 CFR 383.91. BLS publishes occupations, not license groups. The heavy-truck median includes tractor-trailers, so it is not a Class B-only wage.

Does this page find Class B jobs near me?

No. It does not take a ZIP code, sort employers, or list openings. The state table is light-truck employment, not Class B jobs near you.

Is a light truck driver a Class B driver?

Not necessarily. BLS treats light truck drivers as a separate occupation and says they need a driver’s license. This page does not call that employment a Class B job count.

Does a trailer over 10,000 pounds make the combination Class A?

Only when the combination’s gross combination weight rating is also 26,001 pounds or more. A heavier towed unit alone does not make a lighter combination Group A.
