Printable CDL pre-trip inspection checklist
What should I check before a CDL trip?
Start with the brakes, tires, lighting, steering, coupling and emergency equipment listed in 49 CFR 392.7. If you are learning an inspection routine, use this checklist with an instructor and your state manual. If you find a safety defect, resolve it before driving. The practice quiz is a separate page and does not certify a safe vehicle.

Use this with your vehicle’s instructions and your state’s current CDL manual. It is a study aid, not the complete state skills-test script or permission to drive with a defect. Secure the vehicle before inspecting it. Have an instructor demonstrate brake tests and coupling checks.
