CDL training cost in Virginia
License fees and school charges are different bills. The fee lines below are copied from the Virginia licensing source opened . They are not a tuition estimate, and they are not added together into one “total cost.”
License fees on the official page
- CLP fee
- A commercial learner’s permit is $3. It is valid for one year and cannot be renewed. The applicant must reapply.
- CDL fee
- A standard CDL with no endorsements is $64 and is valid for eight years. It typically expires on the holder’s birthday. Endorsements cost an additional $1 per year. The page lists a non-refundable hazmat fingerprint fee of $83, valid for five years, or $41 when the applicant uses TWIC comparability and is not fingerprinted. That $41 check is valid through the TWIC expiration. The TSA hazmat page checked the same day lists a different new-applicant amount.

Named program charges
No school in Virginia has a program charge reprinted here. A directory listing is not a price. Ask the school for a written quote for the class, location, and schedule you want.

Questions drivers ask
How much does CDL training cost in Virginia?
This page does not publish a statewide tuition. The license amounts are the lines on the official fee source checked October 29, 2026. A school price appears only when a named program page was already checked, and that price is not a quote for another school.
Are the Virginia license fees the whole bill?
No. A permit, a license card, a skills test, a medical exam, and a school charge are different payments. If one of those lines was missing from the licensing page, it is not filled in from another state.
Does a directory listing include the price?
No. A listing in the Virginia school directory is not a tuition quote and not a funded seat.
