CDL training cost in Kentucky
License fees and school charges are different bills. The fee lines below are copied from the Kentucky licensing source opened . They are not a tuition estimate, and they are not added together into one “total cost.”
License fees on the official page
- CLP fee
- The commercial learner’s permit fee is $11, or $14 for a REAL ID. A $3 National Crime Information Center check, required by KRS 281A.300, is collected at the regional office before the written test. A temporary paper permit is issued until the permanent credential arrives by mail. A failed written test can be retaken after 24 hours.
- CDL fee
- CDL fees range from $18.75 to $50. The page does not assign those ends of the range to a class. A transfer pays a $60 CDL transfer fee plus the issuance fee in that same range. A farm-related restricted CDL is $15. Renewing a hazardous-materials endorsement requires the hazmat written and vision tests, unless the last test was less than two years ago; the testing fee is $5. The fingerprint-based criminal background check for hazmat is $138.25, and the page says that amount is not the endorsement fee.

Named program charges
No school in Kentucky has a program charge reprinted here. A directory listing is not a price. Ask the school for a written quote for the class, location, and schedule you want.

Questions drivers ask
How much does CDL training cost in Kentucky?
This page does not publish a statewide tuition. The license amounts are the lines on the official fee source checked October 29, 2026. A school price appears only when a named program page was already checked, and that price is not a quote for another school.
Are the Kentucky license fees the whole bill?
No. A permit, a license card, a skills test, a medical exam, and a school charge are different payments. If one of those lines was missing from the licensing page, it is not filled in from another state.
Does a directory listing include the price?
No. A listing in the Kentucky school directory is not a tuition quote and not a funded seat.
