CDL training cost in Iowa
License fees and school charges are different bills. The fee lines below are copied from the Iowa licensing source opened . They are not a tuition estimate, and they are not added together into one “total cost.”
License fees on the official page
- CLP fee
- The fee for a commercial learner’s permit is $12. The section says that permit fee is not prorated.
- CDL fee
- A commercial driver’s license, other than the commercial learner’s permit, is $8 per year of license validity. The section does not multiply that rate by a term of years. A doubles or triples endorsement, a tank endorsement, or a hazardous materials endorsement is $5 each. A passenger endorsement or a school bus endorsement is $10. Removing an air-brake, full-air-brake, manual-transmission, tractor-trailer, or passenger-vehicle restriction is $10. On renewal, no fee is charged for keeping an endorsement or a removed restriction that does not require a knowledge or driving-skills test. The department does not charge the commercial license fee in subsection 4 to an applicant on federal or state active duty, or to an applicant with an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.

How much does CDL training cost in Iowa?
This page does not publish a statewide tuition. The license amounts are the lines on the official fee source checked October 29, 2026. A school price appears only when a named program page was already checked, and that price is not a quote for another school.
Are the Iowa license fees the whole bill?
No. A permit, a license card, a skills test, a medical exam, and a school charge are different payments. If one of those lines was missing from the licensing page, it is not filled in from another state.
Does a directory listing include the price?
No. A listing in the Iowa school directory is not a tuition quote and not a funded seat.
