CDL training cost in Alabama
License fees and school charges are different bills. The fee lines below are copied from the Alabama licensing source opened . They are not a tuition estimate, and they are not added together into one “total cost.”
License fees on the official page
- CLP fee
- The fees page lists a $25 testing fee and $36.25 to purchase a commercial learner license. Checks are not accepted. A skills test for a first-time applicant or an upgrade is a separate $20 and is by appointment.
- CDL fee
- The same page lists $66.25 to purchase a Class A license, $56.25 for Class B, and $36.25 for Class C. The $25 testing fee applies to CDL or CDL learner applicants. A hazardous-materials transfer or a new hazardous-materials endorsement requires a Transportation Security Administration background check. The page does not print that TSA dollar amount.
- Skills-test fee
- A skills test for a first-time applicant or an upgrade is $20 and is by appointment only. The page also lists the separate $25 testing fee.

Questions drivers ask
How much does CDL training cost in Alabama?
This page does not publish a statewide tuition. The license amounts are the lines on the official fee source checked October 29, 2026. A school price appears only when a named program page was already checked, and that price is not a quote for another school.
Are the Alabama license fees the whole bill?
No. A permit, a license card, a skills test, a medical exam, and a school charge are different payments. If one of those lines was missing from the licensing page, it is not filled in from another state.
Does a directory listing include the price?
No. A listing in the Alabama school directory is not a tuition quote and not a funded seat.
