License fees on the official page

CLP fee
The first-CDL page says the applicant pays a $15 application fee, $2 for each knowledge test, and $2.50 for the permit. The permit expires in one year. Renewing it requires the applicable knowledge tests again. The fees page lists the same beginner’s permit, CDL application, and knowledge-test amounts.
CDL fee
The renew-or-upgrade page says a CDL renewal or upgrade is a $25 license fee plus a $15 application fee. A 5-year hazmat license is $15 plus the $15 application fee and $2 for the knowledge test. The fees page lists an 8-year license at $25, a CDL application at $15, a knowledge test at $2, and a 5-year hazmat license at $15. A debit or credit card adds a $1 plus 1.7 percent service fee that the fees page says is not an SCDMV fee.

Named program charges

No school in South Carolina has a program charge reprinted here. A directory listing is not a price. Ask the school for a written quote for the class, location, and schedule you want.

Questions drivers ask

How much does CDL training cost in South Carolina?

This page does not publish a statewide tuition. The license amounts are the lines on the official fee source checked October 29, 2026. A school price appears only when a named program page was already checked, and that price is not a quote for another school.

Are the South Carolina license fees the whole bill?

No. A permit, a license card, a skills test, a medical exam, and a school charge are different payments. If one of those lines was missing from the licensing page, it is not filled in from another state.

Does a directory listing include the price?

No. A listing in the South Carolina school directory is not a tuition quote and not a funded seat.
